Sandbox Xtet is an electronic jazz ensemble based in Brooklyn, NY. The group explores the spectrums between traditional and experimental, acoustic and electronic, and composition and improvisation, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on melodic and groove-based playing.
Utilizing live-sampling techniques, sequencers, synthesizers, and electronic effects to manipulate and develop ideas in real time, Sandbox Xtet transforms both original and traditional melodies into live beats and electronic soundscapes.
The group is led by award winning composer and pianist Thomas Woodward Davis, and has played in large scale venues around NYC like Public Records, Nublu, and the Brooklyn Brewery. They have shared bills with other leading artists in their field like Currency Audio, Ran Blake, and Tim O’Keefe.
In 2023 the group was selected to premiere original music for the ?!:New Works festival at The Brick Theater in Williamsburg, NYC. In 2024 Sandbox Xtet saxophonist James Robotham released his album Where Are You with Ran Blake, and in 2025 the group released their electroacoustic live album MADN.
